Eight Months Later…

I’ve gotta be honest- I wrote this post in May. It’s August. I’m so bad at blogging I couldn’t even bring myself to post a brief life update. It has literally been so long this update is out of date. Stay tuned for another, briefer update at the end.

So it turns out I’m insanely bad at blogging. I really thought I had a moment of clarity and commitment at the end of my first post, but that was approximately six months ago. Here are some things that happened:

  1. I decided to go to Australia on a working holiday visa instead of finding a job after graduation. (I’ll make a full-length post about this agonizing and terrifying decision- stay tuned!)
  2. I saw Hippo Campus (with Sure Sure) live at Brooklyn Steel.
  3. This one is so cliché it hurts, but I went on a super cool and kind of life-changing spring break road trip. (We flew to Phoenix and rented a car, drove to the Grand Canyon, Joshua Tree, and then ended up in LA. I will certainly make a full-length post about this with too many pictures so get ready to be lightly flexed on.)
  4. I wrote my history seminar paper. (British women were killing their infant children during World War II at an alarming rate!)
  5. I graduated from college. (Yikes.)
  6. I saw The Kooks (with the Academic) live at Brooklyn Steel. (Is this post sponsored by Brooklyn Steel?? A lady never tells.) (It’s not.)

And that’s what you missed on Glee! Now I’m back home in Texas for the summer. I have some goals for the next few months, and they are as follows:

  1. Work– Looking at my bank account makes me 😦 and it needs to make me 🙂 so I can afford to live in Australia.
  2. Write– Looking at this empty blog makes me 😦 it needs to make me 🙂 so I know I am feeding my creative hunger.
  3. Get fit– I feel 😦 and I need endorphins to feel 🙂 , you feel?

I’m not a student anymore. And that’s a hard pill to swallow. (Miss me with that “We’re all students of life!!” bullshit, THANKS.) Sophomore year I had to write a personal essay about my identity (because naturally yes of course it’s the liberal arts). As with most things I do, there were lots of tears and many hours of introspection. In the end, I came to the conclusion that I am a student. That’s my identity. Sophomore year that was all fine and dandy because I still had half of college ahead of me. But now it’s over and I’m thinking I probably should’ve tried to forge a new identity earlier because I am currently kind of empty inside. (Is this relatable? Too dark? Let me know in the comments below!)

Anyway, I guess there is one positive about graduating: I can’t use schoolwork as an excuse to not write blog posts anymore! So get ready for a lot of mediocre content. I told myself this website wasn’t going to be my journal. It wasn’t going to be my life- just some of my thoughts. But it turns out I really am just a self-centered millennial and most of my thoughts are about my life.

And that’s it. That’s what I wrote in an airport in May on my way home from the East Coast. It’s a little lazy and directionless, but then again… so am I. Here are some things that have happened so far this summer (and I will maybe probably turn into future content):

  1. I got my visa and plane tickets to Australia. (November 7th!!)
  2. I started waiting tables.
  3. I got a gym membership.
  4. I started working front desk at a hotel. (Two jobs? I’m crazy!)
  5. I saw Paramore and Foster the People live at Concrete Street.
  6. I stopped working front desk at a hotel. (It’s amazing how a job can pay above the federal minimum wage and still pay so little. I love America!)
  7. I started working for a local jewelry company.
  8. I saw Arctic Monkeys live at The Anthem in DC.
  9. I saw Arctic Monkeys live at The Anthem in DC again. (Is this post sponsored by The Anthem?? A lady never tells.) (It’s not.)
